Betty’s Farm is a family run tenanted farm in the Derbyshire/Staffordshire border, with a farm shop selling fresh free range eggs and a butchery selling free range meat, including home grown native breed lamb and pork. We also stock a wide variety of local produce including some well-known brands, as well as some more bespoke and unique items.
We have a commercial flock of 24,000 free range laying hens, together with a small flock of sheep. To reduce our impact on the environment we have an 11kW wind turbine and a 200kw photovoltaic system. We also have a children’s play area, small animal area and café, with events held throughout the year.
We aim to achieve the highest standards of animal welfare whilst reducing our impact on the environment and supporting the local economy.
Betty’s farm was originally a greenfield site used for arable production and was bought by the John Bowler franchise and converted into a free range laying hen unit in 2010, run by Emma and Simon Ruff. Emma started selling eggs from a trestle table every Saturday and this led to the opening of the farm shop in 2011, which is named after John Bowler’s mother, Betty. In June 2012 the decision was taken to rent the whole farm and since then the shop has continued to develop, with the addition of the butchery.
We are proud to share our farm with customers and have extensive plans to develop the farm and shop in the coming years.
