Chinley Cheese in Derbyshire's High Peak is a Cheesemongers which stocks local fine foods, such as chutneys, jams, pies and chocolates, as well as local beer, wine and gin; all within the village Post Office.
In 2016, Chinley almost lost its Post Office. A hub for the local community, it was becoming ever more important as local bank branches were (and still are) dropping like flies. But the sub postmaster was selling up, and no-one wanted to take over. Step in Kieran & Laura, who saw an opportunity to start a small business close to their relatively new home in the High Peak, pairing running the Post Office with their love of cheese and beer.
Chinley Cheese opened its doors in November 2016 and has been providing locals with stilton as well as stamps ever since. Other local fine foods are available, such as chutneys, jams, pies and chocolates, as well as local beer, wine and gin. In 2017 a cheese-by-post service was launched, and in 2018 Chinley Cheese put together its first bespoke wedding cheese cake.
Customers are always welcome to try the cheese before they buy. But with on average 20 cheeses available (more over the festive period), you may need more than one visit!
